About
The International Communist League (Fourth Internationalist) is a Troskyist international associated with the Spartacists. (It was known as the International Spartacist Tendency until 1989). It is represented in Ireland by the Spartacist Group of Ireland.
It developed from the US Socialist Workers’ Party, in part due to objections to the SWP’s affiliation with the United Secretariat of the Fourth International (i.e. Reunified Fourth International). The Spartacists initially were affiliated with the International Committee of the Fourth International, but their positions were condemned at the 1966 conference.
With the first non-US Spartacist group founded in New Zealand in the early 1970s, the two parties agreed an international committee in 1974, though the first International Spartacist Tendency conference didn’t occur until 1979.
It’s largest constituent part remains the US Spartacist League.
