About
The Irish Transport and General Workers’ Union (ITGWU) was founded in 1909, by James Larkin.
The ITGWU played a central role in the 1913 Dublin Lockout. In 1990, SIPTU was created when the ITGWU merged with the Workers Union of Ireland (WUI), which had formed in the 1920s from ITGWU members.
